Description

Samuel Porter Jones was a 19th century Methodist revivalist who is said to have been a principal influence on Will Rogers. He was born in Alabama, and moved to Georgia with his family at age 10. He used humor and language of the common man, for example “Repentance is quitting your meanness”. “I always did despise theology and botany, but I do love religion and flowers.” He preached for Theodore Roosevelt. His tabernacle in Tennessee was later home to the Grand Old Opry for many years.

Includes about 40 pages of his sayings.
